|That is the question that I have been asking myself for years to stay motivated in finding places where I can make a difference in the budget every month. Many people tell me that it will not make that much of a difference, but month after month it really begins to add up. There is no sense in letting that money go to waste because of laziness. Instead, you can take some of the proper steps to ensure that you keep those utility bills as low as possible, and keep some of that extra money in your pocket.
There is some of the more simple stuff that you can do to make the adjustments, like changing your light bulbs to the ones that are more energy efficient. You can do this by making sure you buy the ones with the energy star label on them. This will not only increase the lifespan of the light bulb but you will see a dramatic decrease in lighting costs by up to 75% or more. You can also make sure that you are turning your computers and televisions off when you are not using them. I am a TV sleeper, but when I saw what the difference was in the bill when I didn’t use the TV to fall asleep, it was amazing. You can use the sleep timer if you have a problem falling asleep without the TV.
Then there are some of the more complicated things that people don’t really remember to do, that could end up saving them a large amount over time. If you have heating and air conditioning, close off all of the vents to rooms that you are not going to be using. You can also work on making sure you have the proper windows and doors that keep in the heat and keep out the cold. The next suggestion would be to ensure that your refrigerator and other appliances are energy certified. If they are not, you might want to think about upgrading them. Yes, it will cost you quite a bit up front, but the savings will pay for it over the long-term.
You should always do an inspection of your home to see if there is any projects that you can take on to help lower your bills. Things like small areas where heat can escape. These can make a huge difference and will help dramatically lower your bill. You can also change out your air filters in order to save some on your bill as well. There really is no end to the things you can consider when you want to lower your energy bills, but yet we still see people accepting their high bills and complaining about it. Take charge of your energy costs and make it more manageable. Over time you will come to really appreciate the extra money that it brings you. Not to mention the fact that you are being much nicer to the environment this way.
